What am I waiting for?

Okay, can I just rant for a minute? I have been sitting here waiting for 30 minutes for a 2:00 meeting with someone who is looking to start a ‘marketing’ business and has asked for some advice. 30 MINUTES LATE!  Who does this? Calls and repeatedly emails for just ‘a few minutes of your time’ and then doesn’t even bother to show up????? With no call, email or apology at all. And, yes, I’m sure. I just checked my iPhone…again.

In the slim possibility that a true life and death situation has occurred, I will extend the courtesy of not naming names, but REALLY????? Just in case you can’t tell, this is a MAJOR deal breaker for me, particularly with someone who is, to all intents and purposes, a stranger who’s asked for a rather large favor.

When someone asks, I am always ready to give because I remember how valuable it was to me when starting out in my career to have the advice and counsel of someone who’d traveled the road before. But this? I’m asking myself what on earth this person was thinking (or not thinking) of?

But not to worry. I’m sitting here enjoying a few unexpected minutes with my tall, iced coffee on a hot, very hot, day, and waiting for some other business partners who are on their way for our 3:00 meeting at this very spot. (Efficient scheduling on my part, yes?) Oh, wait! Here they are now. Dare I say it? 15 minutes EARLY. Now that’s the way I do business.

Time is money, people. Today more than ever. Please DO NOT ever ask for a meeting and then be so rude to ‘no show’ without a call, text or email. With our mobile options these days, there’s really just no excuse. This person knows who she is. And so do I. And if you ask me about her, you’ll know, too. Wonder if that will make her think twice next time?

Not a good way to start your own business. What do you think?
